The Clone Wars

wurmblr:

Went to see this with Dan last night. I enjoyed it, I can’t not enjoy things that are Star Wars. But that’s not to say that it had it’s imperfections. As Dan said, writers these days are more and more using ‘stupid humour’ as comedy. The writing was a bit hit and miss but as I’ve come to learn with this franchise, I just have to turn a blind eye and take in what it does do well. The visuals were awesome, particularly the opening scene, which I could have watched for hours, and I always relish seeing more and more of the Star Wars universe unfold. I look forward to the tv series, and seeing where they take it. With luck it will mature, as the characters and story develops, but we can only wait and see.

Oh, and I didn’t mind the ditching of the scrolling yellow intro text, but I did mind the Starship Troopers voice over replacing it. I mean come on, that’s about the cheesiest thing yet. Speaking of audio, I did like one of the fight scenes that started to have a bit of a heavy guitar rock soundtrack. They have definitly taken a step away from the mold with the soundtrack, which gives it another fresh direction. Again, it has the potential to backfire, so as long as they keep it subtle it’ll work.

I went to see Clone Wars with Matt yesterday, and I obviously didn’t enjoy it as much as he did. It’s to be expected somewhat though, since I don’t seem to enjoy any of star wars as much as most of my friends! The opening scene was just amazing, with some incredible animation and fantastic art direction. This lasted throughout the whole movie.

However the writing was on par with the trilogy, IMHO. If you liked the trilogy, then this movie is similar, with slightly more action and lots of dumb protagonists. Go see it if you’re a star wars fan - otherwise, avoid.
